This year, winter and spring seem to be in a friendly tug-of-war across Glacier Country, and spring is clearly starting to take the lead. With lighter snowfall than usual and longer, brighter days settling into the Flathead Valley, March already feels like the start of a new season. Trails are waking up, events are picking up, and both locals and visitors can enjoy the rare mix of cool mountain air and early spring energy. It’s the kind of month where you can explore community celebrations, spend more time outdoors, and still enjoy the thrill of adventure at Flathead Lake Alpine Coaster without the peak summer crowds.

Biggie Banks Banked Slalom Series | March 7
Whitefish Mountain Resort keeps the mountain spirit going into March with the Biggie Banks Banked Slalom Series. Designed as an entry-level race series, these events welcome skiers and snowboarders of all ages and skill levels, making it just as fun for first-time racers as it is for seasoned riders.
Each course is built using natural terrain and forested sections unique to Whitefish, creating a race experience that feels true to Montana’s mountain landscape. The banked slalom format adds speed, flow, and just enough challenge to keep both participants and spectators engaged.

Lucky Hare Half Marathon and 9K
March 14 | Kalispell
Kick off St. Patrick’s Day celebrations in the Flathead Valley with the Lucky Hare Half Marathon and 9K, one of Kalispell’s newest spring events. This festive race takes runners along the scenic Great Northern Trail system, offering a refreshing way to experience the changing season as winter gives way to spring.
Both races finish at Brannigan’s Irish Pub, where participants and spectators gather to celebrate. Runners receive a chip-timed bib, race shirt, finisher’s medal, a complimentary beer, and automatic entry into the “One Big Pot of Gold” giveaway.

Plan Your March Adventure
March opens the door to a different kind of Glacier Country experience. The season is shifting, crowds are lighter, and your days can move at whatever pace you choose.
Start the morning on the slopes or exploring the outdoors. Spend the afternoon enjoying a local race, parade, or community event. Then end the day with sweeping valley views and the rush of a downhill ride at Flathead Lake Alpine Coaster.
This is the month where you don’t have to choose between adventure and atmosphere. You can experience both in a single day, without feeling rushed.
If you’re planning your Glacier Country itinerary, make space for moments that feel uniquely Montana. Fresh air, local celebrations, and one ride you’ll want to do again before you leave. Add Flathead Lake Alpine Coaster to your March plans and make it part of how you welcome spring in the Flathead Valley.
